BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Troy women's basketball travels to Florida Atlantic on Wednesday looking to snap a five-game losing streak. The streak started with a home loss to Florida Atlantic prior to Christmas, which the Trojans will look to avenge on Wednesday.
Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. CST at FAU Arena. Live stats will be available through FAUSports.com. Fans in Troy can hear the game on WTBF 94.7 FM or online at WTBF.com
Troy (3-12, 0-5) comes in to the contest having lost five straight, despite leading three of those five games at halftime. Troy led each of its last two games at halftime, both played at Trojan Arena, against UALR and ULM.
The losing skid started with an 81-80 loss to Florida Atlantic at home before Christmas. Troy led that game by six at halftime, but the Owls used an 18-0 run to start the second half and the Trojans had to battle back.
Troy tied the game at 80-80 with four seconds remaining, but a foul in the backcourt gave FAU two free throws with 1.4 seconds remaining. The Owls hit the second attempt to take the game.
Florida Atlantic (8-7, 5-2) used that game as part of a 5-0 start in Sun Belt play, but they currently ride a two-game losing skid with losses at Middle Tennessee and WKU.
Troy and Florida Atlantic bring the two highest scoring offenses in the Sun Belt in to Wednesday's game as Troy leads the league at 75.3 points per game and FAU sits second at 72.7 points per game.
Freshman Ashley Beverly-Kelley leads the Trojans in scoring at 12.7 points per game and is one of three Trojans averaging in double figures.
Joining her in double figures is junior Joanna Harden (10.9 ppg) who played exceptionally well against FAU earlier in the year in Troy, leading the Trojans with 15 points while dishing out 10 assists. Harden is still the only Sun Belt player to drop 10 dimes this season, and she'll look for a repeat as she returns home, playing near her hometown of Pompano Beach, Fla.
