WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Trojans (5-3-1) were defeated by UNC Wilmington (4-2-1), 4-0, on Sunday at the UNCW Courtyard Marriot Wilmington Invitational.
“UNC Wilmington is a strong team and their speed of play surprised us,” said head coach Chris Bentley. “Getting down early took us out of our game. We can take a lot from this as we move forward.”
Troy finishes the tournament in second after picking up a win and a loss on the weekend. Chelsey Williams, Cecilia Thorngren and Paige McMillan were all named to the all-tournament team.
The Seahawks took an early lead, scoring twice in the first 10 minutes. They added another in the 21st minute and scored their fourth and final goal in the 57th.
The Trojans were outshot 22-3, including 11-1 in shots on goal.
UNCW wins its fourth straight game, after beginning the season 0-2-1 against three top-25 teams in Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and Virginia.
Nicole Costa scored twice for the Seahawks. Kim Currie and Amanda Holmes each scored once.
The Trojans return home on Sunday, September 16, to host Mercer in their final non-conference match of the season. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
