BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With 15 non-conference matches under its belt, the Troy volleyball team opens Sun Belt play this weekend with a trip to No.24 WKU on Friday followed by a trip to Middle Tennessee on Saturday.
The Trojans and Lady Toppers are set for a 7 p.m. first serve on Friday with live stats available via WKUSports.com. On Saturday, the Trojans and Blue Raiders will begin at 7 p.m. with those live stats and vido available via GoBlueRaiders.com.
Troy (9-6) enters the weekend having won nine of its last 12 matches after starting the season 0-3. The Trojans most recently swept Florida A&M at home on Tuesday behind a 14-kill, one-error performance by Breanna Cullity.
Cullity is second on the team to Blair Winston who leads the Trojans with 2.77 kills/set average, but the story of 2012 has been the Troy defense.
The Trojans have held their opponents to a .145 attack percentage this season, the second best mark in the Sun Belt. Troy only helped the cause on Tuesday as the Trojans held the Rattlers to a .009 team attack percentage.
Troy leads the Sun Belt in digs/set, averaging 16.38 as a team with Courtney Cohen leading the way individually with a 5.04 digs/set mark, the second best in the league.
On the defensive front, Cullity leads the Trojans with a 1.13 blocks/set average, the fourth best mark in the league, after breaking a Troy single-game record with 12 total blocks against Maryland-Eastern Shore last weekend.
WKU (14-3) enters the weekend ranked 24th in the AVCA Division I Coaches Poll after knocking off their second ranked opponent of the season last weekend as they defeated Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Lady Toppers have won 14 of 15 with their only three losses coming to Louisville, Penn State and Ohio State.
Troy is 0-15 all-time against the Lady Toppers, including an 0-7 mark at E.A. Diddle Arena. Troy fell to WKU three times last season, twice in the regular season and in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Conference Championships.
Middle Tennessee (3-12) enters the weekend on a nine-match losing streak after falling to Louisville, Miami and UNLV last weekend. The Blue Raiders will take on South Alabama on Thursday before Troy visits Alumni Memorial Gym on Saturday.
Troy is 1-15 all-time against Middle Tennessee, including an 0-7 mark in Murfreesboro, Tenn. Troy gave the Blue Raiders all they could handle last season inside Sartain Hall, pushing Middle Tennessee to five sets.
