Trojans Travel to Montgomery for ASU Invitational

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Troy volleyball team makes the short trip to Alabama State this weekend as they get set to play three-matches in the ASU Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
The Trojans (6-5) are set to take on the host Hornets on Friday at 1 p.m. before playing Jackson State at 5 p.m. on Friday. Troy will close its tournament with a contest against Maryland-Eastern Shore on Saturday at 9 a.m.
Live stats for all match will be available as the match begins on BamaStateSports.com. Live video will also be available for Troy's match against Alabama State.
Troy has won six of its last eight matches after starting the season 0-3, including a 3-1 mark in last weekend's KSU Owls Invitational hosted by Kennesaw State. The Trojans defeated Chattanooga, North Carolina Central and Tennessee State before falling to the Owls in the tournament finale.
Devin Von Pingel earned all-tournament honors after hitting .500 or better in three of the Trojans' four matches. The senior posted kill totals of 13, 12 and 13 in the three matches, respectively.
True freshman Blair Winston leads the Trojans on the season with 123 kills for a 3.00 kills/set average. She is hitting .224 while Breanna Cullity leads the Trojans with a .288 attack percentage.
Courtney Cohen leads the Trojans with 211 digs and a 5.15 digs/set average, the second best mark in the Sun Belt.
Alabama State (0-12) enters the weekend coming off of a mid-week loss to Chattanooga on the road. The Hornets are hosting their second tournament of the season after going 0-4 on opening weekend in the ISTAP Collegiate Cup.
Troy is 25-0 all-time against Alabama State, with the last meeting being a Troy sweep a Sartain Hall last season.
Jackson State (2-7) represented the SWAC in the NCAA Tournament a year ago, and the Tigers have started back were they left off with a conference win over Alcorn State last week. Troy is 2-0 against Jackson State with the last meeting coming in 2006.
Maryland-Eastern Shore (10-1) represented the MEAC in the NCAA Tournament a year ago. The Hawks are off to a hot start in 2012 and have won six straight entering this weekend. UMES traveled to West Virginia for a three-match tournament last weekend and defeated the Mountaineers, St. Peter's and Wright State. Troy and UMES have never met.
