ATHENS, Ga. – The Troy volleyball team continued play in the season-opening Benson Hospitality Bulldog Invitational as the Trojans took on host Georgia, falling to the Bulldogs, 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-18).

Troy (0-2) was led by Kayla Pickart who posted eight kills for a Troy team that hit just .010 on the night with 21 kills and 20 errors. Breanna Cullity swung a Troy-best .333 with five kills and just one error on 12 attempts.

“We improved today,” Troy head coach Sonny Kirkpatrick said. “Georgia was better than us and we'll only get better for playing teams like that. They were bigger and more athletic than us.

“Georgia is definitely an up and coming team in the SEC, but the good news is we competed better today and played with more energy than we did yesterday.”

Georgia (2-0), who opened its tournament with a win over Georgia Southern on Friday, was led by Chloe Buckendahl and Brittany Northcutt who each posted eight kills as the Bulldogs hit .305 as a team with 39 total kills and 10 errors.

Defensively, Alexandra Alexander led Troy with 11 digs while Courtney Cohen was also in double-figures with 10. Alexander posted a double-double with 13 assists to go along with her dig total.

The Trojans recorded three service aces while the Bulldogs picked up seven with 10 service errors. Georgia also out-blocked the Trojans with 11.0 team blocks to Troy's 2.0. Tirah Le'au led the Bulldogs with six total blocks.

The match marked the first of two against the SEC in a span of four days as the Trojans welcome Auburn to Sartain Hall at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. First, Troy will turn its attention to Georgia Southern on Sunday in the Trojans' final match of the Benson Hospitality Bulldog Invitational.
