Sun Belt Honors 145 Trojan Student-Athletes with Academic Honors

Academic Honor Roll
NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference announced its 2011-2012 Commissioner's List and Academic Honor Roll on Thursday. Troy landed a total of 145 student-athletes on the two lists.
The Commissioner's List (3.5-4.0 GPA) featured 82 Trojans with women's cross country and track leading the way with 15. Troy landed 63 members on the Academic Honor Roll (3.0-3.49 GPA) with football leading the way with 17.
The Sun Belt honored 1,793 students for the past academic year, which surpasses any achievement in years past. In an official release made by the Sun Belt, Commissioner Karl Benson spoke highly of the student-athletes from all 12 member institution schools.
“This is a tremendous accomplishment for our member universities, athletics departments and our quality student-athletes,” said Benson. “We are very proud of the high academic achievement of our student-athletes in the Sun Belt and it proves that our member universities and athletics programs are committed to excellence, not just on the fields and on the courts but in the classroom as well.”
The total of 1,793 student-athletes that were honored tops the previous highs of 1,710 set during the 2010-11 school year, 1,700 set during the 2008-09 school year, 1,503 for the 2007-08 school year and 1,429 for the 2006-07 school year.
“Our coaches and administrators have done an outstanding job in mentoring and providing the necessary tools and resources for our student-athletes to succeed and reach such high levels of academic success," added Commissioner Benson.
