Troy Volleyball Grabs Team Academic Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. –The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced the recipients of the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2011-2012 season on Friday, with Troy finding itself on the prestigious list.

In order to receive the AVCA Team Academic Award, squads must post a 3.30 cumulative team GPA during the 2011-12 academic year.

The Trojans went above and beyond the threshold as they posted a 3.58 team GPA with 12 of 13 players earning a GPA above 3.0. Eight different players recorded a GPA above 3.5 during the 2011-12 academic year.

The Trojans were one of just four Sun Belt teams to receive the award, joining UALR, North Texas and South Alabama.

Troy's high marks in the classroom weren't the only highlights of 2011-12 as they flourished on the court. Troy posted its first winning record since 2003 and qualified for the Sun Belt Championships for the first time since 2005.

Troy will open its 2012 season at the Benson Hospitality Bulldog Invitational on August 24 as they travel to the University of Georgia for the three-day, five-team tournament.

The Trojans will open their home slate Tuesday, August 28 when Auburn visits Troy for a 7:00 p.m. match-up.
