Troy’s Brynden Trawick named to Thorpe Award Watch List

OKLAHOMA CITY – Troy senior safety Brynden Trawick has been named to the Thorpe Award Watch List, the Jim Thorpe Association announced Friday. Trawick is one of just 35 players in the country and one of just two in the Sun Belt Conference to be included on the watch list; the Thorpe Award is presented annually to the best defensive back in college football.
Trawick led the Sun Belt Conference and finished 20th in the NCAA with 123 tackles in his first season with the Trojans in 2011. The Marietta, Ga., native ranked sixth in the NCAA with 75 solo tackles and finished 16th nationally averaging 10.2 tackles per game.
He recorded double-digit tackles in six of Troy's 12 games on the season, including a season-high 20 tackles at Western Kentucky. Trawick's total against the Hilltoppers ranked as the second most in school history and is just three off the school record of 23 set by Anthony Rabb against Western Kentucky in 1999.
