CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – The National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) announced today the All-American Scholar Teams for women's collegiate golf, honoring those student-athletes who excelled academically during the 2011-2012 season.
Of the 602 golfers recognized were Trojans Taylor McGraw, Langley Vannoy and Haley Lawrence. The honor is awarded to collegiate golfers competing in Divisions I, II & III who achieve at least a GPA of 3.50. The trio of Trojans led the women's team to a 3.57 GPA, which was the highest achieved GPA of any other Troy sport.
Lawrence, who will graduate in December with a degree in athletic training, adds to her already long list of academic achievements. At the end of the 2011-2012 academic year, she was given the Sorrell Award, which is presented annually to a graduating senior with the highest GPA of all athletes. In addition, Lawrence earned All-Academic Scholar honors all four of her years at Troy.
Lawrence finished out her career with a 77.84 stroke average and an average finish of 23rd. During her final year as a Trojan, she averaged a finish of 18th and recorded seven top-20 finishes, four top-10 finishes and three top-five finishes. The top finish of Lawrence's career came in 2009 where she claimed the individual championship at the Troy Women's Invitational.
Vannoy and McGraw, with just one year of collegiate experience, also excelled on the course and in the classroom. Vannoy, majoring in health education, finished out her freshman year with a 77.61 stroke average over 10 events played. The highlight of her year came at the ULM Fred Marx Invitational in September where she tied for first and helped lead the team to one of its three championships on the year.
McGraw, who is pursuing a career in political science, also had a strong showing as a freshman. She finished the year with a 78.54 stroke average over 10 events played. Her highest finish of the year came at the USA Women's Invitational where she tied for fifth in the rain-shortened, two day event.
The Troy women's golf team will be back in action on September 9th to kick off the fall season at the GolfWeek Program Challenge in Pawley's Island, S.C.
