TROY, Ala. – Troy offensive lineman James Brown and wide receiver Stanley Arukwe signed undrafted free agent deals with NFL teams over the weekend. Brown inked a deal with the Chicago Bears and Arukwe signed with the Arizona Cardinals.
Brown was a first-team All-Sun Belt Conference selection after starting all 12 games at left tackle for the Trojans this past season. He finished the year with an 87 percent grade on 878 snaps. The three-year starter was only penalized twice in 2011 and racked up a team-high 110 knockdown blocks. Brown, a native of Liberty, Miss., made 37 career starts over the last three seasons.
Arukwe caught 12 passes for 231 yards last season for the Trojans; his lone season on the gridiron at Troy. The junior college transfer medaled in the 100m, 200m and the 4x100 meter relay at the 2010 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Arukwe, a native of Tracy, Calif., caught the eye of NFL scouts after running a blistering 4.19 40-yard dash at Troy's Pro Day.
The pair will join defensive end Jonathan Massaquoi at NFL minicamps in May. Massaquoi was selected in the fifth round of the NFL Draft on Saturday by the Atlanta Falcons; his selection marked the sixth straight year that a Troy player has been selected in the NFL Draft.
