Troy Travels to UAB to Open Road Trip

TROY, Ala. – The Troy baseball team opens a four-game road swing with a trip to in-state rival UAB Tuesday night at Young Memorial Field in Birmingham, Ala., with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m.
The game will be broadcast live on the Troy IMG Sports Network with local coverage on 94.7 FM and worldwide coverage on TroyTrojans.com or via the Tune-In Radio app on your smartphone by searching for WTBF-FM. Fans can also follow the action on TroyTrojans.com with live stats.
The Trojans (13-14) head to the Magic City looking to avenge a 9-7 loss to the Blazers (17-12) back on March 6 in Troy.
Logan Pierce, who went 3-for-5 in the first meeting with UAB, enters the week riding a 17-game hit streak. The junior first baseman is batting .500 (32-of-64) during the streak with a .734 slugging percentage. Pierce ranks 13th in the NCAA with a .528 on-base percentage and first in the Sun Belt batting .404 on the year.
Troy has stepped up its home run production over the past 10 games. The Trojans have homered in nine of the 10 games and sent 13 balls over the fence in the process. Danny Collins and Boone Shear have five home runs on the season to pace the Trojans, while Pierce has four and Jo-El Bennett has two.
Joe Hernandez (2-0, 6.28) will make his second career start on the mound for the Trojans on Tuesday night. The junior right-hander struck out five and allowed just one hit in three innings at Jacksonville State last week.
UAB is scheduled to send junior right-hander Tanner Bryant (1-0, 1.69) to the bump to start the game. Bryant held Alabama scoreless over four innings in a start last week. The Blazers are led offensively by Jeff Schalk's .304 batting average and Patrick Palmeiro's 10 doubles; UAB has hit just six home runs on the season.
Following the single mid-week contest, the Trojans head down to Miami, Fla., for a three-game Sun Belt series against FIU.
