Troy tops off the first week of spring practice with quick scrimmage.
Troy, Ala. – The Troy football team wrapped up its first week of spring practice on Saturday morning, the second straight practice in full pads for the Trojans.
The Trojans maintained the 26 five-minute period format that they had used all week with a quick 11-on-11 scrimmage to close out the day's practice.
“We've had good enthusiasm,” head coach Larry Blakeney said. “We've still got a long way to go to be a good football team, both ways.”
Practice began with an emphasis on adjusting the kicking game to the new kickoff rules. This year the kickoffs will be taken from the 35 yard line and touchbacks will be placed at the 25 yard line.
“It shouldn't be a problem, but it's a different timing problem as far as getting off and attacking that line, being in synch with the kicker, all that stuff,” Blakeney said.
Practice wrapped up with a quick scrimmage with Corey Robinson and Deon Anthony both taking snaps at the quarterback position. Scrimmage was topped off with Robinson scoring on a 22-yard dash.
Troy's next practice is set for Tuesday at 3:00 pm. All practices are free and open to the public. Troy's annual T-Day game is set for Saturday, Mar. 31 and will also be free.
