Troy Travels to UALR for Battle of the Trojans

TROY, Ala. – Coming off a dominating 9-0 victory over Alabama, Troy hits the road for the second straight weekend for a three-game Sun Belt Conference series at UALR in a battle between last season's regular season and tournament champions. First pitch between both sets of Trojans is set for 6 p.m. Friday, 4 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.

Troy (10-9, 1-2 Sun Belt) outplayed Alabama in all three phases of the game on Tuesday night as three pitchers combined to toss a four-hitter (all singles), six players combined for 12 hits and the Trojans played flawless defense.
Logan Pierce extended his hit streak out to a career-high nine game with a 3-for-4, three-run performance against the Crimson Tide. The junior first baseman enters the weekend leading the Trojans with a .352 batting average. Austin Golden also had three hits against Alabama and is batting .387 on the season and .462 over his seven-game hit streak.
Designated hitter Danny Collins slugged his third home run of the season in Tuesday's victory and leads the Trojans with a .558 slugging percentage. Tyler Hannah saw his streak of reaching base in 33 consecutive games end against Alabama, but enters the weekend second in the Sun Belt with a .500 on-base percentage.
Boone Shear picked up his team-leading 27th RBI against the Crimson Tide and is second in the Sun Belt in the category trailing just UALR's Sean Bignall (35).
Tyler Ray (2-1, 2.52) will take to the mound Friday night for Troy looking to bounce back from his first loss since the 2010 season. Ray, who has not issued a walk in 30 consecutive innings, enters this weekend's matchup win a 1.01 WHIP and with wins in 18 of his last 20 decisions. Troy will decide on its Saturday and Sunday starters as the series progresses.
UALR (13-8, 0-3) will counter with junior right-hander Chance Cleveland (4-1, 3.45) on Friday night, junior right-hander Blake Huffman (3-1, 3.64) on Saturday and sophomore right-hander Ethan Schlechte (1-0, 3.06) on Sunday.
UALR enters the weekend series with one of the top offenses in the NCAA led by Bignall's nine home runs and 35 RBIs, which rank second and first in the NCAA, respectively. As a team, UALR ranks fourth in the NCAA averaging 9.0 runs per game, but were held to nine combined runs in its three-game series at Arkansas State last weekend to open Sun Belt Conference play.
