TROY, Ala. – After completing the first spring practice on Sunday evening, the Troy football team took to the field at Veterans Memorial Stadium Tuesday afternoon in sunny conditions in what was a primer for Thursday's first full-pad workout of the spring.
Today's practice was the second of 13 scheduled over the next four weeks. Players took to the field around 3:30 and practiced through 26 five-minute periods, just like Sunday's setup.
Throughout practice, both players and coaches were calling to be more physical in drills and one-on-one exercises. The urgency of being physical is something that the players have been dealing with since they were last in pads back in December.
“We are ready for Thursday,” said senior linebacker Jacoby Thomas. “We can't stand just these helmets. We're ready to hit, and that's what I like about this defense, we're all aggressive.”
Thursday, the Trojans will gear-up and practice in full pads for the first time this spring. Not only the players, but head coach Larry Blakeney is excited and ready to see what's in store for the team once in full gear.
“We want to be sure that it's high intensity,” Blakeney of Thursday's workout. “We'll do a lot of fundamental work out here on Thursday.”
Troy will continue its spring practice schedule this Thursday at approximately 3:30 and again on Saturday at 10 a.m. All practices are free and open to the public. Troy's annual T-Day game is schedule for Saturday, March 31, at 2:00 p.m. and is also free.
