AUGUSTA, Ga. – After the second round of the Insperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate, the University of Texas San Antonio holds onto a four-stroke lead over host Augusta State at the Forest Hills Golf Club.
UTSA sits comfortably in first place thanks to four players in the top 10 of the standings after day two. Shannon Jungman, Fabiola Arriaga and Summer Batiste each shot even-par or better to lead the Roadrunners to first place over the 14-team field, while Troy shot 307 as a team to improve to the eighth spot after entering today tied for ninth.
The back nine proved to be a challenge for the Trojans in today's round, unlike yesterday's struggles with the front nine.
“The team shot really well on the front nine today, which is the side that gave us trouble during the first round,” Assistant Coach Bart Barnes said. “As a team we gave up strokes on the back today.”
Taylor McGraw (76-75-151) led the Trojans with a three-over par 75. McGraw was solid on the front nine, but struggled with the back nine to complete her day tied for 21st.
Sofia Bjorkman (76-77-153) saw mixed results on the front nine, then carded five bogeys on the back nine to finish her second round with a five-over par 77, tied for 31st. Langley Vannoy (77-77-154) saw the same results as yesterday and shot a second round 77 to put her tied for 36th.
Sydney Conrad (80-78-158) improved by two strokes in today's round, but fell one spot to a tie for 53rd after shooting a second round 78. Haley Lawrence (79-79-158) matched her first round score with a 79 to also put her tied for 53rd.
“I am proud of the team because they are taking strides,” Barnes said. “We need to put it all together and go out tomorrow for the final round and play our game."
The final round of the Insperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate will begin tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. Sofia Bjorkman will be the first to tee-off for the Trojans and will be grouped with South Alabama's Ingrid Hagen and Southern Mississippi's Brandi Rodriguez.
