AUGUSTA, Ga. – After a one hour weather delay at the Forest Hills Golf Club, the Troy women's golf team has completed its first round play at the Insperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate.
Officials cleared the course at approximately 3:20 p.m. due to lightning in the area, but play was resumed and all teams completed their rounds on the day.
Troy finished the day tied for ninth at 20-over par with a score of 308 on the par-72, 6,248-yard course. The Trojans were led by Sofia Bjorkman and Taylor McGraw, who both sit tied for 19th at four-over par. Bjorkman managed a one-over par after her first nine holes, but struggled with consistency on the last nine carding four bogeys.
McGraw's first round was comparable to Bjorkman's, as she also was fairly consistent on the first nine, but faltered on the last nine to card a four-over par. McGraw also hit a season-best 15 greens. Langley Vannoy completed round one tied for 32nd with a five-over par 77.
Haley Lawrence, who was ranked seventh in the Sun Belt entering today's tournament, began her round shooting one-under par, but carded a four-over par 17th hole, which put her at three-over par to make the turn towards her last nine holes. Lawrence finished the day at seven-over par tied for 45th. Sydney Conrad finished the day tied for 52nd at eight-over par.
“All of the girls got off to a fast start and a good finish,” Assistant Coach Bart Barnes said. “We have to tighten up the middle holes. Since we started on the tenth hole, the holes that gave us trouble were one through five.”
Round two of the Insperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate will resume tomorrow morning at the Forest Hills Golf Club. Fans can follow along live at www.golfstat.com or follow @TroyTrojansGolf on Twitter for updates.
