Troy Opens Spring Slate at Home

TROY, Ala. – The Troy volleyball team will continue preparations for the 2012 season as they begin their spring exhibition at home on Friday afternoon.
The Trojans will host West Florida on Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at Sartain Hall as they open their annual spring slate on exhibition matches.
Troy is coming off of a season in which they qualified for the Sun Belt Tournament for the first time in six year. The Trojans finished the regular season at 16-14 overall and 6-10 in Sun Belt play and welcome back many key parts of that squad in 2012.
The Trojans success in 2011 started on defense as Troy finished in the top half of the Sun Belt in opponent hitting percentage while leading the league with 15.7 digs per set.
Courtney Cohen became Troy's second All-Sun Belt selection in program history after leading the conference with a 4.57 digs per set mark. The sophomore libero posted 525 digs, breaking the Trojans school record.
Add that number to Cohen's freshman record of 431 digs in 2010, and her 956 career digs are already ninth on Troy's career leaderboard after just two seasons.
The Trojans also welcome the return of much of their offense as four of their top five attackers from 2011 return in 2012, including Breanna Cullity who led the Trojans at 2.61 kills per set a season ago.
Troy also returns setter Alexandra Alexander whose 9.41 assists per set a season ago ranked her sixth in the Sun Belt.
Division II contender West Florida comes to Sartain Hall after posting a 25-9 overall record a season ago, including a perfect 14-0 mark in Gulf South Conference play.
The Argos won the Gulf South Tournament but fell as a four seed in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to fifth seeded Florida Southern.
The Trojans will continue their spring schedule on March 31 when they travel to Atlanta for a one-day tournament at Georgia Tech. While there, the Trojans will take on the Yellow Jackets, Ole Miss and Kennesaw State.
Troy closes out its spring schedule on April 14 at the Panama City Beach Tournament.
