TROY, Ala. – Members of the Troy University football team visited Troy Elementary School twice over the past week to read to the students in kindergarten and first grade.
“This is something that our players look forward to and really enjoy doing,” assistant coach and Trojan Challenge coordinator Jeff Beckles said. “The kids at the elementary school look up to our players as role models. By going there and interacting with the kids, it creates a special bond between our players and the youth in the community. We never have any problems finding enough guys; the signup sheet is always filled soon after it's posted.”
Troy's players are in the middle of the annual Trojan Challenge which is designed to build accountability within the team. The Trojans also began their offseason Octagon workout program this week and will continue the 5:30 a.m. workouts for a month.
The Trojan Challenge is a semester long competition designed to raise accountability within the Troy football team. Players will be awarded points for a variety of different tasks including – community service, perfect class attendance, earning positive feedback from professors and for work in the weight room. Players and teams can also lose points for demonstrating poor accountability.
