TROY, Ala. – Ronnie Rice delivered a powerful life skills presentation “Booze, Boys, Babes, and the 'Mourning' After” to Troy's student-athletes Monday evening in the Trojan Center Ballroom.
The presentation was part of the NCAA's CHAMPS/Life Skills Program which is designed to help student-athletes develop life skills that are problem solving behaviors used appropriately and responsibly in the management of personal affairs.
“What we are trying to provide to our student-athletes are strategies for making responsible decisions,” Troy Director of Student-Athlete Service Matt Mayotte said. “We talk about responsibility and accountability. There are consequences to every decision that each one of us makes, including the student-athlete. Through the efforts of people like Ronnie Rice, our hope is that student-athletes will internalize the message and take the skills with them as they graduate and enter the workforce as responsible and productive citizens. In addition to providing an education or a degree, the life skills component is critical to the development of our student-athletes as individuals.”
Rice is president of R2 Enterprises which provides educational services in the area of motivational speaking, leadership training, and life skills coaching. Although Rice has received numerous awards and recognitions for his achievements, he is most proud of the feedback he receives from individuals who share how he helped them to make a difference in their lives. Rice's message is simple, “Make footsteps, don't follow them.”
His presentation to student-athletes was relevant and important; at times astonishing as he quoted statistics regarding the incidents of HIV/AIDS and other issues surrounding alcohol use and abuse.
