FIRST ROUND RESULTS
MOBILE, Ala. – Taylor McGraw fired an opening round 75 and sits in a tie for third place to lead the Troy women's golf team following the opening round of the Lady Jaguar Invitational hosted by South Alabama at the par-72, 6,071-yard Azalea City Golf Club on Monday.
Troy fired a 313 in the first of what was scheduled to be two rounds on Monday, however severe weather forced the cancelation of the second round. The Trojans are in sixth place heading into Tuesday's final round and are just nine strokes off the lead.
McGraw opened with a 37 on the front nine and followed with a 38 on the back nine and sits just two shots behind UAB's Caitlin Watts for the individual title.
“I played really well in the beginning and then the rain delay hit and it slowed my game down some,” McGraw said. “I hit every fairway and nine greens. My mistakes came with my putter and I had two three-putts."
Haley Lawrence and Langley Vannoy are four shots back of McGraw in a tie for 25th place, while Sydney Conrad is tied for 30th following an opening round 80 and Sofia Bjorkman is tied for 45th after carding an 82. Kayln Hudson, who is playing as an individual, is tied for 54th after shooting an 85.
“We did a lot of things right today," Troy head coach Matt Terry said. "We had a couple of doubles and made some mistakes, but they were not metal mistakes."
South Alabama leads the team race after carding a 304 over the first 18 holes. Butler is two shots back after a 306, while Samford (307), ULM (309) and Jacksonville (309) round out the top five.
