Gameday Storylines
- The Trojans have played into overtime in each of their last two games, including a 75-70 win at FIU on Thursday night. FIU shot a better FG percentage, 3FG percentage and FT percentage than Troy.
- The Trojans enter play on Saturday night in a tie with FIU for the 10th seed in next week's Sun Belt Tournament. The Trojans will have to beat Florida Atlantic to have a chance at winning the tiebreaker over FIU.
- The Trojans enter Thursday's game as the sixth best 3-point shooting team in the country as they average 8.9 made 3-pointers game. Florida (10.3) leads the nation while Troy is averaging just 6.3 in their last six games.
- The outside shooting creates long rebounds which allow the undersized Trojans to grab 14.2 offensive boards per game, the second best mark in the Sun Belt (South Alabama) and 20th best in the NCAA.
- Troy doesn't waste the extra possessions they create as they commit just 12.8 turnovers per game. Pair that with the 15.1 turnovers they force, and Troy's +2.2 turnover margin is the best in the Sun Belt.
- The Troy offense features a balanced attack as six different players have led the team in scoring this season. Will Weathers' (11.4) leads Troy in scoring while Justin Wright (10.6) and Emil Jones (10.0) are also in double-figures.
- Weathers doesn't just score for the Trojans, he is also one of the best distributors in the nation as his 5.8 assists per game lead the Sun Belt and rank 25th in the NCAA.
Scouting Florida Atlantic
- The Owls come into Saturday night's match-up having lost three straight and five of their last seven. Florida Atlantic fell at home on Thursday night to South Alabama, 79-76, in overtime.
- Florida Atlantic is 6-4 at home this season, including a 4-3 mark in Sun Belt play.
- They are led in scoring by Greg Gantt who averages 13.8 per game. He is the only Owl averaging double-figures while Raymond Taylor sits second on the team in scoring at 9.4 per game.
- Taylor is second in the Sun Belt, behind Weathers, in assists at 4.6 per game.
- The Owls commit just 12.4 turnovers per game, the second best mark in the Sun Belt and sit with a 1.0 assist-turnover ratio, the third best in the conference, just ahead of Troy.
The Series
- The Trojans lead the all-time series over Florida Atlantic, 19-9, by far the most games the Trojans have played against a current Sun Belt member. The two sides spent eight season as A-Sun rivals in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
- The Trojans trail, 5-6, with the two sides as members of the Sun Belt, but the Trojans held a 12-3 advantage in A-Sun games with Troy also holding a 2-0 advantage before each team moved to Division I.
- The Trojans are 8-5 in Boca Raton, but have lost their last two at FAU Arena.
- The two sides have met more than once in a season on 12 different occasions. Last season was the only time that Florida Atlantic won both match-ups, but they have a chance to do so again as they defeated the Trojans in Troy in January, 88-67.
- A win on Saturday would make FAU just the fourth current Division I team that Troy has 20 wins over (Jacksonville State, UT-Martin, Georgia State).
