Alabama State (1-3) has not played in nearly two weeks as their last game came on Nov. 26 against Oakwood College of Huntsville, Ala. ASU won that game 105-30 at home to pick up their first win of the season after three road losses (Auburn, Samford, UAB).
The Hornets are led by Nakiya Smith who averages a team high 12.0 points per game. However, Preseason All-SWAC selection Quentori Alford is expected to make her regular season debut against the Trojans after being injured in an exhibition game.
Troy is 8-15 all-time against Alabama State. The Hornets won nine of 10 games between the two in the 1970s. The two sides resumed their series in 1993, and Troy is 7-6 against ASU since then.
Troy won last season's meeting, 60-53, in Montgomery. That meeting was the first between the two schools since the 2000-01 season.
After hosting Alabama State, Troy will host Alabama on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. at Trojan Arena. The Trojans will have six days off to prepare for their second of three games against SEC opponents this month.
