STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Troy women's basketball team will close the non-conference portion of its schedule on Saturday as the Trojans travel to take on Mississippi State.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Humphrey Coliseum with live stats and live video available through HailState.com. Fans in Troy can hear the radio broadcast on WTBF 94.7 FM or online at WTBF.com.
Troy (3-8) comes in looking to erase the taste of a pre-Christmas home loss to Florida Atlantic. The Owls made a free throw with less than two seconds to go, handing Troy an 81-80 loss that kept the Trojans winless in Sun Belt play.
The Trojans took four days off for Christmas and returned to the practice floor on Wednesday, prepping for their third game against an SEC opponent this month.
Troy travels to Starkville with the Sun Belt's top scoring offense at 79.9 points per game, and it's an efficient attack. The Trojans shoot 41.3 percent as a team overall, third in the Sun Belt, and 32.3 percent from deep, second in the Sun Belt.
The Trojans have four players averaging double-figure scoring, the only Sun Belt team that can claim that feat. Britney McCloud leads the way with 14.3 points per game while Ashley Beverly-Kelley sits second with 12.2 points per game, the second best mark among Sun Belt freshmen.
Joanna Harden led the Trojans with 15 points against Florida Atlantic and also dished out 10 assists, the most by any Sun Belt player this season. The 10 dimes were the most by a Troy player since 2007-08.
Saturday's game will mark the second in two nights for Mississippi State (6-5) who is set to host Northwestern State on Friday night.
The Bulldogs enter Friday night's contest on a three-game winning streak, with all three coming at home where MSU is 6-1 this year. Saturday's game against Troy will be the fifth straight at Humphrey Coliseum for the Bulldogs.
Mississippi State is under first-year head coach Vic Schaefer who comes to Starkville after a nine-year stint as associate head coach at Texas A&M, including the Aggies' 2010-11 national championship season.
Troy is 2-10 all-time against Mississippi State, with all 10 losses coming in Starkville where the Trojans are 0-10. The two sides last played on Nov. 10, 2006 with MSU winning that contest, 74-43, at Humphrey Coliseum.
After traveling to Starkville, the Trojans turn their attention solely to Sun Belt play, beginning with a road contest against North Texas on Wednesday.
