Trojans Host Florida Atlantic on Thursday Night

The Troy men's basketball team look to pick up first Sun Belt Conference win of the season, as it takes on Florida Atlantic on Thursday night with admission free to the public.

TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's basketball team returns to the hardwood after an eight-day layoff looking to pick up its first Sun Belt Conference win of the season, face the Florida Atlantic Owls on Thursday.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and admission is FREE. The Troy University Department of Athletics encourages all Troy fans to bring non-perishable food items that will be donated to the Pike County Salvation Army.

Troy (5-8, 0-2) is looking to pick up its first conference win of the season after falling to Utah Valley State, 66-64 in overtime, on the road last Tuesday in the Trojans' last non-conference matchup of the year. Troy built up a five-point lead in the extra period, but was outscored 12-9 in overtime by Utah Valley State. Junior Tevin Calhoun led the Trojans with a career-high 18 points off the bench in the loss, while seniors Ray Chambers and Emil Jones notched double-doubles.
Jones leads the Trojans in scoring averaging 10.2 points per game, while he and Chambers are tied for the team lead with 6.2 rebounds per game. Over the last four games, Chambers has averaged 12.3 points per game and 8.0 rebounds per game.
The Trojans are looking to avoid their third straight 0-3 start to conference play. Troy jumped out to leads against UALR on the road and Western Kentucky at home, before falling to both teams to start 0-2 in Sun Belt play.
Florida Atlantic (5-7, 1-1) enters Thursday's matchup trying to snap a three-game losing streak after falling on the road last Saturday to sixth-ranked Indiana, 88-52. The Owls have split their first two games in conference play; losing to South Alabama at home and defeating Arkansas State on the road.
Last season, the road team's won both contests as Troy took an 83-82 win at FAU. The Trojans slashed a 19-point second half deficit to pick up the win in both team's regular season finale. Last year, FAU took down the Trojans at home, 88-67, despite Jones' putting up 19 points and 11 boards against the Owls.
FAU's Greg Gantt leads the Sun Belt and is ranked eighth in the nation in scoring, averaging 21.2 points per game. Gantt was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week on Dec. 11 after a career-high 34-point performance against Stetson.
The Trojans are 20-9 all-time against Florida Atlantic. Admission is free to Thursday night's game and fans are asked to bring non-perishable food items for the Pike County Salvation Army.
