TROY, Ala. – Troy University's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has been hard at work in the local community over the recent weeks. Members of the Troy SAAC spearheaded a canned food drive, sponsored kids from Big Brothers Big Sisters and will be volunteering for the Salvation Army over the holiday break as bell ringers.
“It means a lot to be a part of any community and the Troy community has been so good in their support of us,” Troy Director of Student-Athlete Service Matt Mayotte said. “Many of us are so fortunate and this is a way to show our gratitude and it's especially nice because of the holiday season.”
The Troy University SAAC collected over 4,200 pounds of canned food for the Pike County Department of Human Resources. Also, last Friday night SAAC members celebrated the holiday season with members of the Troy Big Brothers Big Sisters organization. Troy student-athletes, coaches and athletic administrators sponsored a number of the Big Brother Big Sister children and presented them with their gifts in addition to signing autographs and playing games.
About the Troy University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee
The SAAC is a primary avenue of communication between student-athletes, the University and athletics administration. The SAAC provides a forum in which student-athletes and Athletics Department leadership can discuss openly issues relevant to intercollegiate athletics including student-athlete welfare. The SAAC group consists of representatives from Troy University athletic teams including rodeo and cheerleading. SAAC representatives are selected annually by the head coach to serve the remainder of their eligibility on the committee. The group meets monthly and sets its own agenda based on input from team members and other athletic administrators.
