TROY, Ala. – Troy University golf head coach Matt Terry announced this past week the signing of one student-athlete to a National Letter of Intent to begin golf action for the Trojans in 2013.
Becca Horner, a native of Woodham, England, signed with the Troy women's golf team and is expected to help replace seniors Sofia Bjorkman and Sara Fennvik of Sweden.
Horner claimed the Woodham Club Championship in three consecutive years from 2008-2011 and carded a top-10 finish in 2010 in the under-15 English girls' tournament. Her victory at the County Durham Junior Girls tournament in 2011 made her one of the youngest to ever claim the title.
“She is somebody we haven't seen play a lot,” Terry said. “We totally went off a resume with her. We're excited and did a real good job. When she got here on campus she loved it and loved being here and she saw this as a place she could grow as a player and as a person and that excites us just to be able to show off our University in that way.”
Horner currently holds a stroke average of 76 and plans to major in Criminal Justice at Troy.
“Having her with a one day trip choose to come here is pretty exciting,” Terry said. “There's a lot of unknown there sometimes, but we like what she brings to the table, already an accomplished junior in England, and she'll come in and help replace Sofia and Sara that'll be graduating in the spring.”
Horner will tee-off for the Trojans beginning in the 2013-2014 season, and will join then juniors Sydney Conrad, Kayln Hudson, Taylor McGraw, Brooke Spinks and Langley Vannoy.
“With the sophomores we've got on the team now she should add a little experience from her junior days and come in here ready to go and ready to play.”
