Trojans Host Furman on Sunday

TROY, Ala. – The fast-paced Troy women's basketball team will look for its first win on Sunday when Furman visits Trojan Arena. The Trojans are averaging 86.0 points per game in their first two contests, both close losses. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.

Troy (0-2) dropped its season opener on the road at Winthrop, 87-82, and then fell in its home opener on Wednesday to Mercer, 96-90. Chanda Rigby, in her first year as Troy's head coach, has instilled a fast-paced attitude on the Troy program that has certainly made a difference early.

The Trojans are averaging 10.0 made 3-pointers per game, the best mark in the Sun Belt. Troy made 12 3-pointers against Mercer, the most for the Trojans since they made 13 against UCF in the 2002-03 season. Jasmine Pitts leads the Trojans with 4.0 made 3-pointers per game, the best mark in the league.

True freshman Ashley Beverly-Kelley is the Trojans leading scorer at 18.5 points per game as she scored 19 in the opener and 18 against Mercer on Wednesday. Her 19 points at Winthrop were the most by a Troy freshman in her debut since Thea Herring scored 23 against Centenary in 2000.

Kourtney Coleman is also averaging double figures for the Trojans as she has scored a career-high 12 points in each of the first two games.

Furman (2-0) comes into Sunday's contest with two wins at home, over Tusculum and High Point. Furman defeated the Trojans last season in Greenville, S.C., 75-57.
