TROY, Ala. – Troy University Athletics Director John Hartwell and members of the Troy Athletics Department staff were on hand for Thursday's Sound of the South Marching Band practice with a special message and surprise for the 320 members of the band.
“On behalf of the Troy Athletics Department I want to say thank you for all that you do to make our game day experience so great,” Hartwell told the Sound of the South following their practice. “I know that you all work hard every day to be the best band in the country and we thank you very much for that.”
Hartwell and members of the athletics department staff handed out Milky Moo's ice cream to the South of the South following their practice.
“They are the unsung members of our game day team,” Hartwell said. “The Sound of the South enhances our game day atmosphere to another level and our players and coaches really feed off their excitement and spirit.”
“Troy University is a unique place because the band and the athletics department not only get along, but we are also friends,” Director of Bands Dr. Mark Walker said. “To have John and the athletics staff come out to practice was a huge deal. The band was thrilled and very thankful; it was perfect.”
Troy hosts Arkansas State on Saturday in the final home game of the 2012 season. Kickoff is slated for 2:36 p.m. in Veterans Memorial Stadium and the Sound of the South will begin its pregame show at 2:14 p.m.
