Alexander, Winston Named All-Sun Belt

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – On the eve of the Sun Belt Volleyball Championships, two Trojans have been named All-Sun Belt as Alexandra Alexander and Blair Winston each earned their way on to the all-conference second team.

Troy (20-11, 10-5) had just two All-Sun Belt selections in program history prior to this season. The Trojans won 20 games for the first time since 2002 and posted 10 conference wins, a record for the Trojans since joining Division I in 1993.

Alexander, a junior setter, leads the conference with 11.20 assists per set in Sun Belt play, posting 605 assists in 15 matches. She has gone over the 40-assist mark nine times in league play and the 50-assist mark three times.

The Austin, Texas, native averages 9.83 assists per set overall, the fourth best mark in the league. Alexander also averages 3.24 digs per set on the season, the second best mark on the team. Alexander has posted 20 double-doubles on the season.

She was one of just two league setters named to the All-Sun Belt team.

Winston, a freshman outside hitter, has been the leading attacker for a Troy squad, averaging 3.58 kills per set in Sun Belt play, the fifth best mark in the league. Her 3.17 kills per set average overall is the sixth best mark in the league.

The Marietta, Ga., native has posted double-digit kills in 20 of the 29 matches she has played in, including nine with at least 15 kills. Winston is the first Troy freshman to ever earn All-Sun Belt honors.

The Trojans open the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Championships tomorrow when they play Louisiana-Lafayette at 12 p.m. at E.A. Diddle Arena on WKU's campus.
