TROY, Ala. – Brandon Sanders has been named an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Troy University, head strength and conditioning coach Richard Shaughnessy announced recently. Sanders, who is a certified strength and conditioning specialist, joins the Troy staff after serving as a graduate assistant at Florida State for the past two years.
“Brandon comes to us from an outstanding strength program at Florida State. He is a great hire for our strength program and will be an asset to our student-athletes,” Shaughnessy said. “Brandon has a bright future in the strength and conditioning field and I am proud to have him as part of our staff.”
Sanders will work primarily with the Trojan baseball and tennis teams, while assisting Shaughnessy with the football team.
While at Florida State, Sanders assisted with the summer strength and conditioning for the Seminoles' football team and was responsible for the development and implementation of the strength and condition programs for Florida State's men's and women's tennis teams.
Sanders was the interim strength coach for the Florida State baseball team for three months in 2011 and also worked with the Seminoles softball, soccer, track and field and volleyball teams.
He earned his master's degree in sports science from Florida State in April 2012 and earned his bachelor's degree in exercise science from Salisbury University in 2007. Sanders played baseball collegiately at Chowan University for two years and played semi-professional football for the Arbutus Big Red in the Mason Dixon Football League.
Sanders began his professional career as an exercise specialist at Life Fitness Physical Therapy in 2007 where he remained until entering graduate school at Florida State in Aug. 2010. Sanders also served as the assistant sports performance director of Velocity Sports Performance (Aug. 2007-May 2009) and as the assistant sports performance training director at the Merritt Athletic Club (June 2009-July 2010).
