NEW ORLEANS, La. – Troy volleyball's sophomore outside hitter Alicia Dukes was named the Sun Belt Player of Week on Monday. The Crestview, Fla., native helped Troy win two road matches on the week as the Trojans improved to 18-9 on the season.
Dukes showed the depth of the Trojan roster as she stepped up in the absence of reigning Sun Belt Player of the Week, Blair Winston, at Florida A&M on Tuesday. Dukes nearly posted a triple-double (19 kills, 11 digs, nine blocks) in just her second match of the month of October as Troy won a five-set match on the road at a tough Florida A&M squad, handing the Rattlers their first loss of October.
Dukes' career-high 19 kills, paired with just three errors, allowed her to hit .320 as Troy hit .316 as a team in the win.
The sophomore remained in the lineup on Saturday at South Alabama and continued to play well as she posted a team-high 17 kills with 11 more digs for her second double-double of the week.
Dukes efforts helped Troy win its eighth Sun Belt match of the year, a school record, as the Trojans handed South Alabama just its second home loss of the season.
Dukes averaged 4.00 kills per set on the week and hit .263, adding 22 digs and 10.0 total blocks.
The player of the week award is the second straight for Troy as Winston was honored last week. The honor is the third of the season overall for the Trojans as Courtney Cohen was named Defensive Player of the Week in September.
