MOBILE, Ala. – The Troy volleyball team will look to build on its one-game lead over South Alabama as the Trojans travel to Mobile, Ala., to take on the Jaguars on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
Troy (17-9, 7-3) sits in second place in the Sun Belt East Division, and overall in the Sun Belt standings. South Alabama (13-12, 6-4) sits a game behind Troy in third place in the East. The Jags are tied with West Division co-leaders Arkansas State and UALR for third overall in the conference.
Live stats for Saturday's match will be available at via USAJaguars.com. There will be no live video.
The Trojans and Jaguars played just eight days ago at Sartain Hall, with Troy winning that match 3-1 in front of a record crowd. Blair Winston led the way in that match with 20 kills for Troy while Kayla Pickart added 17.
Troy enters Saturday's match after a five-set win over Florida A&M on the road on Tuesday. Winston did not play in that match, but Alicia Dukes stepped up in her absence, narrowly missing a triple-double with 19 kills, 11 digs and nine blocks.
Winston, the reigning Sun Belt Player of the Week, leads the Trojans with 3.88 kills per set in Sun Belt play, the fourth best mark in the league.
Alexandra Alexander leads the conference with 11.42 assists per set in Sun Belt play as the Trojans are hitting .210 as a team in league matches.
Defensively overall, Troy holds its opponents to a .165 attack percentage, the third best mark in the Sun Belt. The Trojans lead the league with 16.19 digs per set as a team while Courtney Cohen also paces the Sun Belt with 4.78 digs per set.
South Alabama hoped to enter Saturday's match at 7-0 at home, but the Jaguars fell to Jackson State on Wednesday night at Jaguar Gym, 3-2. South Alabama has won three of five, with the two losses coming to Jackson State and Troy.
Since joining Division I in 1993, the Trojans lead the series over South Alabama 19-17. Troy is 7-9 in Mobile, Ala., over that span. Troy won last year at Jaguar Gym, 3-1.
