Troy Head Coach Larry Blakeney
Opening Statement
“We had another loss, a tough one to swallow a little bit. We did something's pretty well and other things not so well. The penalties were very disappointing and something we've got to get straightened out. (Quarterback) Corey (Robinson) is day-to-day. He did have a concussion and we have definite protocol which we revert back to those tests we give to every player during preseason. You have to get back to those levels before you can attempt to practice or play. We've got a ways to go with him.
“We've got a lot of confidence in Deon (Anthony) and Dallas Tidwell, who hasn't played, but is a redshirt freshman that had a really good spring. We're trying to make sure Deon is ready to go and Dallas stays ready in the situation he might be needed. We got our hands full coming in here with FIU. There are a team that I'm sure is disappointed with their start up to this juncture. They're going to try to get on the winning side and that is what we are going to try to do. A lot of things can happen in the course of this journey and a lot of it remains to be seen. All is not lost and we've still got some things to play for, but we've got to make sure we don't beat ourselves.
On confidence of offense if Troy starts Deon Anthony at quarterback vs. FIU
“We played Deon Anthony all along, because we wanted to have a dual-threat guy out there some in certain situations. It's a good thing we've played him a good bit, and now he goes in and at least he's been in every game. He does throw the ball pretty well and he does run the ball well when he it pulls it down. He can read some things and determine what the defense is doing and then of course moving around and get out and let him look downfield. He's a talented guy and I think he will work hard to prepare and try being as good as he can be.
On FIU coming to Veterans Memorial Stadium with a two-game winning streak vs. Troy
“Well they really embarrassed us up here two years ago and then we went down there and lost in overtime last year. They're a really good football team. It will not be an easy task this week against FIU. We're going to try to get us a good plan and get ready to play. It's a little bit of a different kick time at noon. But, TV rules college football. The next thing you know we will be kicking off at 6:00 am or midnight. We'll get back to work Tuesday and put a plan together on FIU.
On if players could overlook FIU
“If they watch this tape I've been watching all morning they won't overlook it. I'm not sure, they've played two or three quarterbacks, but it looks like they know who their guy is. He (Medlock) looks like a good player. I'm sure they'll be at their best.
Is this week's game a must-win for Troy
“There is always pressure on all of them. Most of them, if you're the right kind of person it is self-induced. I know when you lose a couple of games, it stings pretty good. It may be a must-win for them, because they've won one game. I think we'll get their best shot so we've got to make sure we prepare well and try to get ready to play.
