TROY, Ala. – Troy All-America shortstop Tyler Hannah has been rated as the seventh best middle infielder in the nation by Perfect Game and the Trojans received votes in the USA Today/ESPN Preseason Coaches' Poll that was released Thursday.
Hannah, who was named to a pair of All-America teams last season and a pair of preseason All-America teams this season, earned his spot on Perfect Game's list after batting .370 with seven home runs, 53 RBIs and a .477 on-base percentage last year. The native of Gardendale, Ala., finished third in the NCAA with 27 doubles and 26th with 62 runs scored in his first season at Troy.
The Trojans received the 37th most points in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll. Troy is the highest ranked team in the state of Alabama and the only Sun Belt Conference team to appear on the preseason list. Florida opens the season as the nation's top-ranked team.
Troy officially opens practice on Friday for its defense of the Sun Belt championship. Led by head coach Bobby Pierce, the Trojans finished the 2011 season 43-19 overall and earned the program's third NCAA Regional appearance in the last six years.
