Trojan Trio Key in Giants Victory over Packers

The New York Giants stunned the NFL world on Sunday as they dispatched of the defending Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers 37-20 at Lambeau Field. Three former Troy Trojans all played roles in the victory which put the Giants one step closer to Super Bowl XLVI.
Osi Umenyiora finished the game with a pair of tackles, but came up with a big play on the Packers opening possession of the second half. Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers had marched the Packers down to the Giants 30-yard line and had a fresh set of downs to work with before Umenyiora changed the outlook of the game.
The former Troy All-American stripped the ball out of Rodgers hands and Deon Grant recovered for the Giants – the Packers would not find the end zone after that possession until late in the fourth quarter when the game was already out of reach.
Lawrence Tynes, who sent the Giants to Super Bowl XLII with a game-winning 47-yard field goal in Lambeau Field four years earlier, scored 13 of New York's points in the contest. Tynes booted three field goals and connected on four extra-points, but most importantly limited dangerous kick returner Randall Cobb to just two kickoff returns for a 25-yard average.
The newest Giant from the Trojan circle Jerrel Jernigan was deep to returns kicks in the game, but wasn't given much of an opportunity to shine. The Packers attempted two onside kicks in the game and sent three others either out of the end zone or too deep to return.
The Trojan trio now heads out west as the Giants will take on the San Francisco 49ers for the right to play in Super Bowl XLVI. Kickoff between the Giants and 49ers is set for 5:30 p.m. on Sunday and the game will be televised on FOX.
