With Wednesday marking the first day of classes on campus in Troy, the Troy Unviersity Athletics Department welcomed back all of the student-athletes on Tuesday evening with a student-athlete social.
The event opened at Sartain Hall with a pep talk covering the athletic department's rules and expectations for success both on and off the field.
All of the student-athletes had the opportunity to attend Camp Butter and Egg after the initial meeting of just over 400 student-athletes. The camp gave the student-athletes a time to bond with each other, not just their teammates.
Camp Butter and Egg is owned and operated by Susan and Ron Pierce. They have opened the camp up for the past two years to Troy's Impact sessions of incoming freshman, and they have now opened it up to all student-athletes.
“The camp includes, rock climbing, multiple zip lining, putt-putt golf, horseshoes, frisbee-golf, canoeing, a rope swing, a high-ropes course, and many more activities,” says co-owner Ron Pierce. “We are just excited to see everyone here.”
The Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) sponsored the event. President Brittany McClelland, facility representative Emily Cobb and the entire committee were instrumental in organizing the event
“This is the perfect time for our athletes to relax before their seasons get underway,” Cobb said.
“We are always trying to do more for our Trojan family [student-athletes] and this camp is the perfect place to say 'Welcome Back,'” says Director of Athletics Steve Dennis. “We are here to support one anther and cheer each other on. This is the beginning of a magnificent school year.”
Just over half of the student-athletes attended the camp and at least one person from all 18 intercollegiate sports attended. Their fun and games lasted for about two hours.
