Former Troy shortstop Adam Bryant was selected in the ninth round of the 2011 Major League Baseball Rule Four Draft on Tuesday.
The infielder from Pensacola, Fla. was selected by the Minnesota Twins with the 298th pick overall. He batted .337 with 11 home runs and 66 RBI. Bryant also had 26 doubles in 2011.
“As a coaching staff, we couldn't be happier for Adam to have a chance to continue his career in the professional ranks,” Troy head coach Bobby Pierce said.
“In the past four years, Adam has exemplified everything we could want from a student-athlete both in the class room and on the field. He has been a dedicated member of our program during that time and I'm glad to see him rewarded for his effort.”
A two-time All-American and four-year player with the Trojans, Bryant left Troy as the program's all-time leader in hits, runs, games played, triples, at-bats and total bases. He also ranks second in doubles and RBI.
This is the first time Bryant has been drafted in his career.
Bryant is expected to begin his career with the Twins' Rookie League affiliate in Elizabethton, Tennessee.
