Trojans Play Final Home Game Saturday

TROY, Ala. (TroyTrojans.com) – The Troy University softball team will play their final home game of the 2011 season Saturday against the University of South Alabama, honoring their four seniors prior to the first game at 1 pm.

TROY (29-24, 10-11 Sun Belt) and South Alabama (34-14, 13-9) have already locked up their spots in next week's Sun Belt Conference Tournament, and are playing for seeding this weekend. The Trojans can finish no lower than the sixth seed and no higher than the fifth seed; while South Alabama can finish no lower than the fourth seed and still have a chance at the two seed following the weekend's game in the conference.

The two teams have met one time already this season with the Trojans coming away with a 2-0 victory in Mobile last month. The Trojans used a double by Taylor Smartt, followed by a home run off the bat of Nikki Hollett for the final margin of victory. Senior Ashlyn Williams shut down the potent South Alabama offense in that contest to pick up the road victory.

The first game on Saturday is scheduled for 1 pm, with the second game to start 30 minutes after the first is completed. Troy University Faculty Athletics Representative, Dr. Fred Green, will be on hand to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

However, before the contest, the Trojans will honor their four seniors – Ashley Adkins, Kortney Cooper, Katie Ely and Ashlyn Williams. That presentation will occur 15 minutes prior to first pitch at the Troy Softball Complex.

Admission is free to all home TROY softball games. Live stats and live video will be provided by the Troy University Athletics Media Relations Office for both games on Saturday.
