Troy Opens Pool Play with UALR

MONROE – Top seed and 21st-ranked Troy begins its quest for a Sun Belt Conference tournament title on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. date with UALR at Warhawk Field.

Troy (40-16) earned the top seed thanks to its regular season Sun Belt title and will play in Pool A with UALR, Florida Atlantic and Western Kentucky. Troy owns a 6-3 record against those three teams this season.

2011 marks the second first overall seed in the Sun Belt tournament for Troy. In 2006, Troy won the regular season title and tournament titles from the top spot.

The Trojans swept a three game set with Arkansas-Little Rock earlier this season at Riddle-Pace Field, out-scoring the other Trojans 26-7 in the sweep.

Tuesday night's Family Night and awards ceremony was kind to Troy as it took home three of the top awards (Coach of the Year Bobby Pierce, Co-Player of the Year Adam Bryant and Pitcher of the Year Tyler Ray). The Trojans also had six players named to the all-Sun Belt teams.

Troy is 11-5 all-time against UALR. 2011 marks Troy's sixth berth in the Sun Belt tournament and the first for UALR in eight seasons.

Bryant leads the Trojans with 10 home runs and 63 RBI. Tyler Hannah leads the team with a .367 batting average and 27 doubles.

Ray gets the nod on the mound for Troy. His 11-0 mark leads the league and ranks third nationally. He picked up a 6-2 win in the first meeting for his fifth win of the season. Ray is 3-0 in three career starts against UALR.

Travis Henke (1-5, 5.10 ERA) will toe the rubber for Arkansas-Little Rock.
