Troy Athletes Collecting Donations For Tornado Relief

The Troy University Athletics family, like many in Alabama, was touched by the tragedy in north Alabama this week, and the Trojans student-athletes are hoping to do their share to assist in the disaster relief effort.
Senior Tyler Clark, a starter on the Troy football team for the last four years, said members of the Troy athletics family have a goal to fill the trailer that is used to carry football equipment during the fall with relief supplies.
Clark said the student-athletes are partnering with the Red Cross office in Dothan to assist in providing supplies to the tornado ravaged areas of the state.
“A lot of people want to help but don't necessarily know what or how to help,” Clark said. “You need to have a plan, which is why we are partnering with the Red Cross. They obviously know the best way to assist the people that need help the most.”
Clark said the best items for donation are non-perishable food items, water, clothing, baby supplies and pet supplies.
In addition to partnering with the Red Cross, Clark said the student-athletes are also partnering with the Student Government Association as well as the Campus Outreach program. He is also hoping to get all four Troy University campuses in Alabama – including Dothan, Montgomery and Phenix City – to contribute to the effort.
“The people in the hardest hit areas like Tuscaloosa, Cullman and in Jefferson County are going to continue to need help for months to come,” Clark said. “Even after the debris is cleaned up and the power is restored, there are going to be thousands of people with no place to live, and it is going to take time for them to get back on their feet.”
