TROY – Troy aims to put a disappointing weekend behind it with a pair of mid-week games beginning Tuesday night with in-state foe UAB at 6 pm. The Trojans will also host Alabama A&M on Wednesday.
Troy (26-9) out-scored Middle Tennessee 11-6 in the conference series, but all of 11 of its runs came in the first game as the Trojans were held scoreless and fell 1-0 and 4-0 in the next two match-ups.
On the mound on Tuesday night will be southpaw Shane McCain. The sophomore from Ft. Pierce, Fla. is making a mid-week start for the fourth straight week. He is 1-1 in those previous three starts.
McCain has a 4.26 ERA this season in 31.2 innings of work.
UAB counters with freshman right-hander Chase Mallard (0-1, 2.08 ERA) in the game scheduled for 6 pm.
The Trojans are led by senior shortstop Adam Bryant who leads or is tied for the team lead in doubles, home runs, RBI and stolen bases. UAB's table-setter is speedy outfielder Jamal Austin (.349 BA, 18 stolen bases).
Troy and UAB have met 40 times. The Trojans hold a 22-18 lead all-time, including 14-4 at Riddle-Pace Field. UAB leads 6-5 in games played since Bobby Pierce took over the Troy program in 2003.
Wednesday night, the Trojans send Troy-native William Teal to the mound against Alabama A&M (8-25) for his second start. Teal pitched a pre-determined three innings in his first start against Florida A&M on March 15 to earn his first career win.
The starter for Alabama A&M is still to be determined. First pitch on Wednesday evening is set for 6 pm.
Barry McKnight and Jerry Miller will bring you all the action on the Troy Sports Network from IMG College and 94.7 WTBF beginning at 5:45 on both nights.
