Trojans Compete at High Level in Atlanta

ATLANTA - The conclusion of the Morehouse Relays and Combined Events came Saturday for the Trojans with successful finishes for both the men and women.
The Trojans placed second on both, the men's and women's side, out of a field of 14.
The men's team came away with numerous top ten finishes and wins from the meet, with lots of experience being gained for the younger runners and training for the members going into the FSU Relays next week.
In the men's 100 meters Neko Freeman took the top spot with a time of 10.38. The time puts Freeman in second in the East Region and thrid in the nation in the 100 meters.
The 400 meters had a trio of Trojans in the top 10 with Laron Taylor in seventh, 49.96, O'Jike Matt in eighth, 49.97, and Chris Upshaw in ninth, 50.48.
Alec Hamm took second in the 10,000 meters with a time of 36:03.30. Freshman, David Hudman, took sixth in the 1500 meter with a time of 4:20.43.
In the shot put senior, Scott Neal, placed third with a throw of 13.29 meters, and Eddie Lynn came in fifth with a throw of 12.84 meters. The discus was a win for the Trojans as Lynn took first with a throw of 47.48 meter and Martins Pildavs takes fifth with a throw of 38.52 meters. The hammer didn't stop the Trojan men either as Pildavs placed second with a throw of 46.43 meters and Lynn took third with a throw of 46.09 meters.
In the high jump Larry Henry took second with a jump of 1.97 meters. Freshman, Taylor McMann, took first place in the pole vault with a jump of 3.66 meters.
The men's relay teams were in top form in Atlanta as well. The 4x100 meter relay team took first place with a time of 40.62, holding on strong to the second place position in the national rankings.
The 4x200 meter relay team almost broke the school record with their first place victory with a time of 1:24.73. The 4x400 meter relay team placed second with a time of 3:17.37.
On the women's side the top places kept coming throughout the day as well.
In the 100 meters Ja-Courtney Alexander came in fourth with a time of 12.00 and Ashley Hall came in tenth with a time of 12.24. Alexander claimed the second place spot in the 200 meters, as well, with a time of 24.80.
In the 1500-meter run freshman, Haley Davies, came in seventh with a time of 5:23.69. The 100-meter hurdles put two Trojans in the top 10 as Jasmine Patton took second with a time of 14.72 and Kierra Lyles took sixth with a time of 15.56.
In the high jump Veronica Bryant placed third with a jump of 1.64 meters.
The throwers had another good day in Atlanta with a sweep of the discus led by freshman, Erin Walker, with a throw of 40.31 meters, setting a new personal record. Ashley Evans came in second and Nicole Studstill came in third with throws of 40.05 and 38.88 meters respectively.
The hammer was another sweep for the team, as Karen Wyatt took first with a new personal record of 45.94. Brynn Forsythe came in second with a throw of 45.35 meters and Nicole Studstill took third with a throw of 44.87 meters. In the shot put Forsythe took second with a throw of 12.17 meters, while Studstill placed fourth in the event 11.48 meters.
In the javelin freshman, Megan Schunuelle, took first with a throw of 32.41 meters. Veronica Bryant claimed the second spot with a throw of 28.77 meters.
“For the work load put on our athletes performed very well,” assistant coach Chip Brundage said. “We are very excited for the upcoming meets.”
The Trojans return to action next week at the FSU Relays in Tallahassee.
