Troy has record-setting day at final regular season meet

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Troy University indoor track and field program enjoyed a record-setting day as many Trojans jumped into the record books in the final regular season meet of the year. The Trojans claimed a couple of individual titles at the Middle Tennessee Valentine Invitational as they prepared for the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships in two weeks.
Sophomore Ja-Courtney Alexander won the individual title in the 200-meters with a time of 24.52 seconds. She also competed in the 55-meters, finishing fourth with a time of 7.14, which is the fourth fastest time run at Troy University in that event.
In the 400-meters, freshman Amiracle Watson, finished fifth with a time of 59.63 seconds and cementing her name in the record books with the ninth-fastest time run at Troy in the event.
It didn't stop there as Catelyn Dake claimed honors in the 800-meters with a time of 2:20.00; the third-fastest time run in the middle distance race at Troy. In distance competition, a pair of Trojans ran their way into the top 10 at the school. In the 3000-meters, Sylvia Chirchir finished seventh with a time of 10:34.00 and Agnes Kapsoiyo finished 13th with a time of 10:52.52, placing them second and seventh on Troy's all-time list.
Jasmine Patton finished fourth in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.49 seconds - the eighth-fastest time in school history - while Kierra Lyles finished fifth in the same event with a time of 8.73 seconds.
Patton also claimed fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 11.12 meters, the eighth-best jump in school history; while sophomore Veronica Bryant finished fifth in the high jump with a height of 1.57 meters.
In the shotput Ashley Evans finished fourth with a throw of 11.82 meters, while Nicole Studstill finished fifth with a throw of 11.66 meters and Karen Wyatt eighth with a throw of 11.21 meters.
"Ashley had a break though today," assistant coach Chip Brundage said. "I am really proud of her hard work."
Wyatt had another good performance at Middle Tennessee in the weight throw as she finished third with a throw of 14.93 meters. Evans finished fourth in the event with a personal-best of 14.80 meters. whle Studstill finished sixth with a throw of 12.65 meters.
"We look forward to the next two weeks to work on our competitive edge," Director of Track and Field/Cross Country, Jill Lancaster said. "We look forward to getting the needed training to perform well at the Sun Belt Championship. We want everyone to be at high level as we go forth and fight for a conference championship."
The Trojans are off for two weeks, and do not return to action until the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.
