Gameday Storylines
- The Trojans fell to Mississippi State last season in overtime, 92-83, in a game in which only eight Trojans were available to play. Troy has never beaten MSU in eight attempts, with all eight coming in Starkville.
- This season, head coach Don Maestri and the Trojans bring the nation's top three-point shooting offense to Starkville with them. The Trojans average 12.0 three-point baskets per game, the top number in the country, and are one of just five teams averaging over 10.0 entering this week's action.
- The long range offense is set up by a pressing defense that forces opponents into a Sun Belt high 17.1 turnover per game.
- The Trojans are able to score a Sun Belt best 80.4 points per game because of a versatile and deep bench. Troy has outscored its opponent in bench points in every game this season and averages 34.1 points off the bench, compared to just 18.0 by the Trojans' opponents.
- The Trojans have four players averaging double-figures in Will Weathers (13.2), R.J. Scott (12.7), Alan Jones (11.6) and Justin Wright (11.3). Jones and Wright do so off the bench.
- Not only is Weathers the Trojans leading scorer, he is also their facilitator. Weathers ranks ninth in the nation and first in the Sun Belt with 6.7 assists per game, including 10 in Troy's last win over Miami. Weathers did not play a season ago against Mississippi State.
