Complete All-Sun Belt Teams
NEW ORLEANS, La. – With another football regular season in the books, the Sun Belt Conference announced its postseason All-Sun Belt teams on Wednesday. Despite not winning their sixth consecutive conference crown, the Trojans still placed six players on the team.
Senior left tackle James Brown and junior defensive end Jonathan Massaquoi found themselves on the first team, while sophomore wide receiver Eric Thomas and junior strong safety Brynden Trawick earned second team honors. Junior defensive tackle Tony Davis and junior linebacker Kanorris Davis were named honorable mention.
Brown, who will represent the Trojans at the Senior Bowl in Mobile in late January, started all 12 games at left tackle for the Trojans. He graded out at 87.3 percent in 878 snaps on the season while being penalized just twice. Brown posted a team-high 110 knockdown blocks and was the only Trojan senior to find his way onto the All-Sun Belt and we will leave Troy after a very successful career as a three-year starter.
Massaquoi came on strong at the end of the season for the Trojans as he finished the year with 6.0 sacks and 10.5 tackles for loss. The dominate defensive end did so despite receiving lots of attention from extra blockers throughout the season. Massaquoi recorded 52 total tackles with 29 solo stops to go along with a fumble recovery, a forced fumble and a blocked kick.
Thomas finished the season with nine reception touchdowns, tying a Troy FBS record that was set in 2001. The sophomore wide out led the Trojans with 67 receptions and 875 receiving yards. Thomas averaged 13.1 yards per catch and 72.9 per game. He caught two touchdowns in a game three different times and was the only Trojan to go over 100 yards in a game, doing so twice.
Trawick finished his first season with the Trojans as the Sun Belt's leading tackler with 123 total stops, including 75 solo stops. Trawick recorded at least 10 tackles on six different occasions and picked up a season-high 20 at WKU. He never recorded any less than six tackles in a game from his strong safety position.
Kanorris Davis emerged as a vocal leader of the Trojan defense as a junior despite battling injuries all season. The linebacker totaled 60 tackles on the season, including 40 solo stops, despite missing most of three games. Davis picked up a season-high 11 tackles at Navy and against North Texas. He recorded 10 solo tackles at Navy, despite not playing in the second half of the game.
Tony Davis also served as a leader of the Trojans' defense by setting an example through his great work ethic. The junior defensive tackle recorded a total of 34 tackles on the season, including 6.0 tackles for a loss and 2.5 sacks. The highlight of his season came at FIU when Davis recovered a fumble and returned it 29 yards for a touchdown that gave the Trojans the lead on ESPN2. Davis also forced two fumbles on the season for the Trojans.
