Troy Topples Alabama State in First Victory

Troy women's basketball defeated Alabama State 60-53 in Montgomery on Thursday.

Montgomery, Ala. – Troy (1-8, 0-0) women's basketball claimed their first victory of the season against instate rival Alabama State (2-4, 0-0) 60-53 on Thursday. The victory marks Troy's first win over Alabama State since December 30, 1998.
Both teams came out evenly matched early in the game and would leave the first half tied at 22. However, it was Troy's offense that would find its mark in the second half. Troy shot 43% from the field in the second half and would end the contest with three players in double digit scoring. Jasmine Pitts, Ieva Nagy and DeAngela Sword all broke the double digit scoring mark.
Jasmine Pitts saw her first action on the court as Trojan against the Hornets. She totaled 10 points and led the team in steals with three in the Trojan victory.
Ieva Nagy recorded 12 total points against ASU, her third time this season and her career to break double digit scoring.
DeAngela Sword ended the night with 21 total points, the first time this season a Trojan has broken the 20 point mark. Sword has now recorded double digits in eight of the last nine games.
“We are excited about the win, we worked hard for this,” said head coach Michael Murphy. “Now we have to prepare for the next team.”
The Trojans will remain on the road this weekend when they travel to Macon, Georgia to take on Mercer University on Sunday. Tipoff is set for 1pm.
