Brown Headed to Senior Bowl

TROY, Ala. – With the Trojans' trip to Annapolis, Md., to take on Navy getting ever closer, one Troy football player has received some great news regarding his future this week.

Senior left tackle James Brown has recently accepted an invitation to take part in the 2012 Senior Bowl at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala.

“There is no question that James is a deserving player, young man and all-around student-athlete,” said head coach Larry Blakeney. “He has been a great guy the entire time he's been here with us and he's done everything the right way.”

The Senior Bowl is the premier place for collegiate seniors to show their talents to scouts from all 32 NFL teams. The players are split into North and South teams, taking part in practices in front of scouts all week. The event culminates with the Senior Bowl game on Saturday.

This year's game is being held on Saturday, January 28, 2012 with kickoff slated for 3:00 p.m. The game is aired live on the NFL Network.

Just last season alone, 83 players that participated in the Senior Bowl were selected in the NFL Draft, including the Trojans' standout receiver Jerrel Jernigan who was picked in the third round by the New York Giants.

“It's nice to see that NFL scouts have seen the same things in James and that he is worthy of moving on to the next level. The Senior Bowl has been a great platform for our players and a lot of players around the country,” Blakeney said.

Although Brown has accepted his invitation, the Senior Bowl does not officially announce rosters for the game until mid-December.

Brown and the Trojans will be on the field this Saturday as they travel to take on Navy before returning home for homecoming against North Texas on Saturday, November 12 at 12:00 noon.
