Box Score
Orono, Maine – Troy women's basketball struggled again in the Dead River Company Classic on Saturday when they fell to Evansville 59-49.
The Trojans fell into foul trouble early as seven different Trojans picked up personal fouls including Ieva Nagy and Rosie Hynes who each received two in the first half.
Troy still struggled to overcome the turnover deficit that continues to haunt them. Troy commited 22 turnovers to the Aces and gave up a total 18 points on turnovers.
However the Trojans came out strong in the second half of the contest as they outscored the Aces 35-26 in the second half. Unfortunately Troy could not overcome the earlier first half deficit of 14-36.
The Trojans had a much improved howing from the free throw line hitting 11 of 13 free throws totaling 84%.
The young Trojan squad continued to deal with injury as freshman guard Rosie Hynes got her second consecutive start replacing the still injured Sophie
Kleeman. Junior Sarah McAppion saw limited playing time as she continues to nurse her prior injuries.
Troy did continue to build on individual performances as Troy had at least two players record double digits for the fifth game in a row. This time it was Tenia
Manuel who recorded 18 points and DeAngela Sword with 11.
Manuel's performance was enough to project her onto the Dead River Company Classic All-Tournament team.
Troy was able to finish with 66% shooting from behind the ark. Brooke Bowie ended the contest having shot 2 for 2 from three point range.
“Due to foul trouble in the first half we had to scramble together to regroup and came back,” said head coach Michael Murphy. “I'm proud of the girls for sticking with it and coming out in second half and playing with purpose.”
The Trojans now prepare to travel to Auburn to take on the Tigers on Wednesday. Tipoff is set for 6 pm.
