Troy Travels to Dead River Classic Tournament

Troy women's basketball will travel to Maine to take on the Black Bears in game one of the Dead River Classic tournament.

Orono, Maine – The Troy (0-3, 0-0) women's basketball team is on the road again, this time to face the University of Maine Black Bears (1-2, 0-0) in the Dead River Company Classic. This will be the first time that either program has met.

Troy enters the contest having lost at home to Belhaven on Tuesday. Despite the defeat the Trojans were able to establish many positives to take into this weekend's tournament.

DeAngela Sword and Ieva Nagy both claimed double doubles in the matchup against the Blazers; the first double doubles for the Trojans this season. The Trojans also claimed a better shooting percentage than their opponent for the second time this season by recoding 35% shooting from the field while Belhaven shot 30%.

The Trojans will look to improve on their turnovers per game against a Maine program who has also struggled with turnovers. Troy is averaging 18 turnovers a game while the Black Bears are averaging 21.

The Black Bears will host the Trojans for the first time under their new head coach Richard Barron who is making the transition to the head coaching position from an assistant coach at North Carolina State the previous two seasons.

The Trojans will tipoff against the Black Bears at 6 pm in Harold Alfond Sports Arena. With the outcome of the contests of the tournament pending, the Trojans will go on to face either Brown University or Evansville University in their second contest of the tournament on Saturday night.
