For the seventh consecutive year, the Troy University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is helping less fortunate families in the Pike County area as the holiday season nears.
Athletes and administrators from all sports at Troy were asked to donate canned foods that were donated Thursday afternoon to the Pike County Human Resources Department for distribution.
“Helping families in our county who are in need is what this canned food drive is about,” SAAC advisor Emily Cobb said.
Cobb and a student-athlete from each sport picked up the donations Thursday afternoon, and Cobb and the students were met with smiles at the Pike County Human Resources Department.
“They were speechless,” Cobb said, as the group was met by the employees.
The committee dropped off two car loads of canned foods that will be distributed by the Human Resources department as Thanksgiving nears in the coming week.
But, this is not the only effort the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is making this semester to reach out to Pike County families. After Thanksgiving, Troy student-athletes will host a Christmas party for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Pike County to benefit local children.
